Sojourner Truth

Sojourner Truth was a powerful advocate for abolition and women’s rights. Born enslaved, she escaped in 1826 with her infant daughter. Truth’s grandson James Caldwell enlisted in the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment in 1863.
