2008: From Tufts undergrad to the Levin Lab:

Dr. Michael Levin

Michael Levin, A92, began his academic journey at Tufts graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1992. After earning his PhD at Harvard and establishing a lab at the Forsythe Institute, Levin returned to Tufts in 2008. He serves as Vannevar Bush Professor of Biology, Professor of Biomedical Engineering, and Director of the Allen Discovery Center and the Center for Regenerative and Developmental Biology. Levin is a developmental and synthetic biologist whose work focuses on how cells communicate through bioelectrical signals to control growth and regeneration in living organisms. His research integrates biology, computer science, and cognitive science to understand collective cellular intelligence and has led to innovations such as regenerative medicine approaches and the creation of “xenobots,” simple living organisms built from cells.
