1990s: Leading the Way in International Environmental Policy
Fletcher’s students and staff have been major players in ongoing work to protect the climate. In 1992, William Moomaw, Professor Emeritus of International Environmental Policy at Fletcher, founded The Center for International Environment and Resource Policy (CIERP). The organization leads research on energy, climate, and innovation, agriculture, forests, and sustainable development economics. In addition to founding CIERP, Moomaw has written reports for the United Nations, worked on energy and forest legislation, and was a lead author for several Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reports, an organization which was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.
Additionally, Kelly Sims Gallagher, F00, primarily studied economic development and climate negotiation in China, and has since served as Science Policy director at Ozone Action, director of the Center for International Environment and Resource Policy at Fletcher School, advisor to the Obama administration’s Office of Science and Technology Policy, and Founding Director of the Climate Policy Lab at Fletcher.
