Tufts University: 175 Years of Innovation

The Leonard Carmichael Society (LCS), founded in 1958, is the largest student-run community service organization at Tufts. It is still in operation today as part of Tisch College. LCS operates as an umbrella group for more than twenty service-oriented sub-groups, working alongside Tisch College of Civic Life and neighboring communities in Medford, Somerville, and Greater Boston in order to create space for students to engage in community service and civic work. One of LCS’ popular annual events is Community Day, which celebrates arts, innovation, and civic engagement by hosting family friendly activities and spreading awareness of opportunities to get involved in the local community.
