1990s: Dennett's Dangerous Ideas

Dr. Daniel Dennett

Daniel Dennett taught at Tufts for over fifty years. Starting as an associate professor in 1971, he went on to work as Fletcher Professor of Philosophy and chair of the Department of Philosophy. Dennett was an internationally influential academic figure, conducting research centering on the philosophies of mind, science, and biology, and how these fields relate to evolutionary biology and cognitive science. He published 21books, such as Darwin's Dangerous Idea: Evolution and the Meanings of Life(1995) and Breaking the Spell: Religion as a Natural Phenomenon(2006), Throughout his amply decorated career he received awards including but not limited to a Fulbright fellowship, two Guggenheim awards, the Mind & Brain Prize(2011), the Erasmus Prize (2012) and the Carl Sagan Award (2018).
