Tufts University: 175 Years of Innovation

Dr. Esther Wilkins, D49 DG66, was a Tufts faculty member for over 45 years, and in 1959 published Clinical Practice of Dental Hygienists, one of the first comprehensive textbooks on dental hygiene. The text, now in its 12th edition, went on to become a cornerstone in nearly every dental hygiene education program in the U.S. and around the globe. Wilkins and her husband also founded the Dr. James B Gallagher, A47, D49, DG68, and Dr. Esther M. Wilkins Scholarship Fund, which has supported many Tufts dental students.
