Citicorp Center (now Citigroup Center) opens at Lexington Avenue and 53rd Street in New York City. Designed by Hugh Stubbins & Associates, it is hailed as the third tallest building in midtown and the most dramatic skyscraper built in midtown since the Chrysler Building.
