Tufts Answers the Call to Service: V-12 and NROTC at Tufts

Tufts Answers the Call to Service

This series of exhibits is dedicated to the memory of John W. Rogers, A1947. His service and commitment stand as a testament to his strong sense of community to his alma mater and his nation.

Tufts University Digital Collections and Archives (now Tufts Archival Research Center) presents a series of exhibits focusing on the two United States Navy programs, the V-12 and NROTC, that arrived on campus during World War II. These online exhibits were created in conjunction with exhibits on display in Tisch Library.

"U.S. Navy Comes to Tufts, 1941-1945" is the first of several exhibits scheduled for display over the next three years at Tisch Library. Each will cover a different aspect of the Navy and its relationship with Tufts. This first exhibit concerns the early period of the long association between Tufts and the United States Navy.

The exhibit series continues with "Tufts College: A War-Time Campus", the second exhibit in a series created by the Tufts University Digital Collections and Archives (now the Tufts Archival Research Center). This exhibit explores the experience of students attending Tufts College during World War II. This online exhibit was created in conjunction with an exhibit on display in the Tisch Library from April until September 2001. Both exhibits were designed by Amanda Yost, G2001. The entire series of exhibits has been funded by a committee of alumni and veterans of the U.S. Navy programs that were on Tufts' campus from 1941-1972.

The third exhibit is "Tufts College: Graduates in Wartime." This exhibit explores the transition many Tufts College students made from student to Naval Officer during the fighting of World War II. This online exhibit was created in conjunction with an exhibit on display in the Tisch Library from January until September 2002. The physical exhibit was designed and mounted by Tatiana Sizonenko, and the web exhibit was created by Patricia Hughes G2000. The entire series of exhibits has been funded by a committee of alumni and veterans of the U.S. Navy programs that were on Tufts' campus from 1941-1972.

"Tufts and the V-12 Program: 'Leadership for a Lifetime'" is the fourth exhibit in a series created by the Tufts University Digital Collections and Archives (now the Tufts Archival Research Center). This exhibit explores the history of the V-12 Program and examines the experiences of students attending Tufts College and who served in the U.S. Marine Corps. This online exhibit was created in conjunction with an exhibit on display in the Tisch Library from January through August 2003. The physical and web exhibits were designed and mounted by Aysha Haq, G2003. The entire series of exhibits has been funded by a committee of alumni and veterans of the U.S. Navy programs that were on Tufts' campus from 1941-1972.

Funding for these exhibits has been provided by Tufts alumni who were part of the United States Navy Officer Training Programs on the Medford Campus from 1941-1972.
