The Life of Donald and Charlotte MacJannet

Donald Ross MacJannet was born May 28, 1894 in Sterling, Massachusetts. One of four children, Donald had an older sister and brother, Josephine and Malcolm, and a younger sister Jean. A graduate of Medford High School, class of 1912 and Tufts College, class of 1916, Donald turned his love of modern languages into a profession of school teacher. These two interests led him to France in 1920, onto Germany in 1922, and then back to France. He opened a school in 1924 in St. Cloud outside of Paris and firmly established himself in the realm of international education in France. A camp in Talloires, France continued his educational ideals during the summer holidays and brought him to a town that would remain a part of him for the rest of his life.
Charlotte Blensdorf MacJannet, born the 21st of November 1901 in Elberfeld, Germany was the daughter of artistic, talented parents. Influenced by her father, Otto Blensdorf, she obtained a certificate in the Dalcroze method of music education from the Dalcroze Institute in Geneva, Switzerland and embarked on a teaching career. Her interest in music, dance and the arts in general remained a passion all her life, one which she shared with many students and friends.
Donald and Charlotte met in April 1932 at an education conference in Nice, France. By November of the same year, they were married at the Marylebone Town Hall in London. Forgoing a honeymoon, the newlyweds returned to the school in St. Cloud to start their lives together. Their partnership encompassed international living at its best at the school at St. Cloud, the camp and the Prieuré building in Talloires, as well as Geneva.

Donald Ross MacJannet Donald était néé le 28 mai, 1894 à Sterling, Massachusetts. Un des cinq enfants, Donald avait une soeur ainée Josephine et un frere ainé Malcolm. Sherwood et Jean étaient plus jeunes. Donald avait obtenu son diplôme à Medford High School en 1912 et de Tufts College en 1916. Il avait un grand passion pour des langues modernes et il est devenu maitre des langues. Ses interets lui rendrait à France en 1920 et puis à Allemagne en 1922 apprendre à enseigner des langues modernes. Il est rentré en France et en 1924 il a ouvert une école, The Elms, ou The MacJannet School, en 1925 et s’est etabli en realme de l’education internationalle. Quelques annees plus tard il a ouvert un camp à la region d’Annecy, à Talloires, et continuait ses ideals educatifs pendant des étès. La ville de Talloires est devenue partie de la vie de Donald.
Charlotte Blensdorf MacJannet, néée le 10 novembre 1901 à Elberfeld, Allemagne, était la fille d’une famille musicale. Influencée par son pere, elle a obtenu un certificat de la methode d’eurythmique Dalcroze à l’Institut Jacques-Dalcroze à Genève. Elle s’est embarqué dans une vie d’ensiegner la musique et la methode Dalcroze. Elle s’interestait de la musiques, des arts et de la dance pendant toute sa vie, un passion elle partagait avec ses amis et ses etudiants.
Donald and Charlotte se sont rencontré en avril 1932 à une conference educative à Nice, France. En novembre de la même année, ils se sont mariés au Marylebone Town Hall à Londres. Les mariés se sont rentrés à Paris commencer leur vie. Une vie qui embrassait l'école à St. Cloud, le camp et le Prieuré à Talloires et Genève.
