Advice & conduct books

In addition to the series books and other titles, the Girls' Books collection includes a few mid-twentieth century advice and conduct books, along with a 1954 edition of the Girl Scout Handbook.

The selection of illustrations, tables of contents, and pages from the books included here highlight some of the messages the books were sending to girls of the time about topics such as beauty, health, etiquette, and relationships. The Girl Scout Handbook also included information for girls about skills, hobbies, and civics.

Tisch also has a 1940 edition of the Girl Scout Handbook that's not part of this collection.
